the short stack #3
feeling hot, hot, hot ☀️
hello team! 👋
As I finally get round to typing up this week’s edition of the short stack, I have the fan blasting in my direction, a tango orange with ice as refreshment and my laptop is struggling to function without burning my legs in the process.
It is well hot. Might be too hot.*
some internet points for you if you got that Inbetweeners reference!
This week has been a stressful one. One of those weeks where things start to come to a head, bubbling under the surface and then exploding at the least convenient time.
But I learned a valuable lesson from it.
No one ever wants to cry in front of their manager at work - but I’m glad I did. Because it meant I could open up about how overworked I was, and I realised I was trying to be something for everyone. Taking on responsibilities that were not mine to take on.
Whilst all the problems won’t be solved overnight, I felt listened to and supported and if I would have continued to bottle it all up, I would have also continued to carry on taking on burdens that I didn’t need to.
So if you need to hear this as we head into a new week - be open, honest and reach out for the support you need.
what I’ve been doing this week…💜
I made good progress with my latest decoupage project this week - if you’re looking for something relaxing, low effort but oddly therapeutic, I highly recommend getting into paper crafting.
After putting it off for way too long, we finally made some headway with tidying our garden this week 👩🏻🌾. We should have started earlier in the year so it was BBQ ready, but we’re slowly chipping away at the overgrowth and hopefully, once it’s cleared up, we’ll be able to stay on top of it and make it a nicer place to be on sunny evenings and weekends!
what I’ve been eating this week…🍦
Like most people in the UK, ice lollies and ice cream have featured heavily in my diet this week. Rocket lollies to cool off at my desk, and some vanilla ice cream with golden syrup as a post-dinner snack (if you haven’t tried this combo, I highly recommend it!)
Yesterday Liam and I went to Nandos after the cinema (more on that below!) and it felt like a long time since we’d last indulged in some peri chips. I decided to go for a lemon and herb wrap with some grilled halloumi, the aforementioned peri chips and of course the obligatory perinaise for dipping! What’s your go-to Nandos order?
what I’ve been watching this week… 🍿
On Saturday night we headed off to our local cinema, ordered popcorn and ice blasts, and sat in an air-conditioned screening of Thor: Love & Thunder. When they first announced the film I was really excited, but then when it came out it was like ~radio silence~…no one was talking about it. I’m a huge Ragnarok fan so I still went in with optimism but ended up being sadly disappointed.
Staying on the Marvel train, we saw the Ms Marvel finale this week which was good. I feel like the lead of Ms Marvel was brilliant and really carried the series - and will be interesting to see how they tie it all into the wider MCU story.
Right, given that my laptop is now propped on a cushion to stop it from branding my skin - I think we better call it there! I hope you have an amazing week, stay cool 😎 and I’ll catch you next time!
