Hello team! 👋
I hope you’re having the happiest of Sundays. Sundays for me are often the more productive of the weekend days, as it’s when I potter around the house, making sure things are *just so*, in order to enter a new week without the worry of a messy house (because mess makes my mind messy, too!).
Anyway, welcome to the first issue of the short stack! I’ll be aiming to send these every Sunday, including a little recap of my week, what I’ve been up to and some recommendations of cool shit that I like.
So here’s what has been going on this week…
I got some exciting post this week. I’ve been thinking about saving the money it costs to get my nails done at a salon, instead trying it out myself so I bought the Mylee at home kit* which includes everything you need. We’re doing an overhaul of our garden (or jungle at this point) next weekend, so once that’s done I’ll be giving it a go. I suspect it will go very wrong, but my partner Liam has promised to help with the first go of at-home gel nails, and he paints Warhammer - so it’s bound to be fine, right?
My second lot of exciting post was our weekly Gousto box - we started Gousto around a month ago now, and it’s made trying to decide what to eat a lot less stressful - my favourite meal this week was definitely the Sri Lankan chicken curry. I paired it with a lot of yoghurt for the sake of my weak-ass taste buds, along with some chapatis.
If you fancy giving Gousto a go, you can get 65% off your first box, then 30% off the remaining boxes in your first month with my referral link. Even if you just try it out for the first week, it’s an absolute ruddy bargain.
Aside from exciting post, this week was also my return to streaming for the first time in over 3 months(!). I enjoyed being back on Twitch again and starting a new Sims 4 Challenge - if you want a flavour of what my streams are like, then you can watch the playback here! 🎧
Much of the rest of my week has revolved around being really busy and occasionally overwhelmed at work - but I’ve tried to counterbalance that by doing things I enjoy in the evenings, whether that’s watching a movie or Netflix with Liam, reading a book or playing video games. I definitely need to get better at pushing through that post-work fatigue to spend my weekday evenings doing things I enjoy! Do you struggle with this, too?
what i’ve been reading… 📚
Perfect Death* by Helen Fields - I picked this up on our recent trip to Edinburgh as I have been enjoying the D.I. Callanach series. I’m about a third of the way through, and although not quite as good as the books before, I’m still enjoying it!
I haven’t started it yet, but Liam bought me James Acaster’s Classic Scrapes which I’m looking forward to diving into for some light relief after a crime thriller!
what i’ve been watching…📺
The Boys - I’m absolutely loving this series, so will be gutted when it’s finished next week. I’m very curious what is going to make it into the last episode, and what we may have to wait for the next series to see.
Stranger Things, of course! We binged the 2 new episodes on Friday night and I of course won’t share any spoilers, but ooft. Right in the feels. Also the cinematography was just out of the world 🤯.
what i’ve been playing…🎮
I’ve started The Sims 4 Cult or Commune challenge. I’ve messed up already so will have to do some tweaks to even make the challenge possible, but I think it’s going to be a fun one to play on streams.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney trilogy. This is the perfect game to play while laying on the sofa when you have no energy for anything else!
what i’ve been listening to…🎶
After watching Billie Eilish’s Glastonbury set last weekend, as I tippy tap away writing up this email I am very much enjoying listening to her back catalog. If I was still young enough to go to gigs without needing a week to recover, she’d be top of the list to see live.
…that’s all for this week, team! I hope you enjoy the week ahead and I’ll catch you next time 💜
